The Kimberley is rich is cetaceans, and home to the world's largest population of Humpback whales, the Breeding Group D, or Group 4 population, thought to number approximately 22,000 whales (althugh this figure is due for revision). Bottlenosed, Spinner and Australian Snub Fin Dolphins (previously known as Irrawaddys and only named as a species in 2005) are also found in Kimberley waters, along with False Killer whales and Pilot whales.
