Hunter River (45 images)
The Hunter River was discovered by by Phillip Parker King on the 12th of September 1820, and named after Lieutenant James Hunter, a naval surgeon in honour of it being "A discovery so valuable that the river was thought worthy of a name, and it was called after my companion Mr Hunter" ('Rivers of the Kimberley', Kim Epton).
At 30 km long, the river reputedly has the highest proportion of saltwater crocodiles of any river in the Kimberley.
