The Kimberley has two species of crocodile : the saltwater or estuarine crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), and the freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus johnstoni). Saltwater crocodiles are found in both fresh and salt water, and can grow to several metres in length and weigh over a tonne. Due to the protection of habitat and their status as a protected species, crocodiles are plentiful in the Kimberley.
