Broome, on Western Australia's Kimberley coast, is a thriving town of more than 15,000 people. The town is an eclectic mix of Aboriginal, Malay, Chinese, Japanese and anglo Australians, with a vibrant culture that incorporates pearling, tourism and indigenous histories.

Situated on a peninsular, Broome is flanked on the western side by the Indian Ocean, and on the eastern side by Roebuck Bay, home to one of the world's greatest bird migrations and important seagrass beds.
